  • The integration of iconic characters from both franchises creates a laugh-out-loud crossover experience.
  • The animation showcases timeless humor of Spy vs. Spy, highlighting blend of slapstick & iconic characters.

A hilarious fan animation has crossed Spy x Family over with one of America’s most popular spy comics. Spy x Family has undeniably become one of the hottest anime in recent years. Though Spy x Family is not a comedy, its take on the spy subgenre mixed with its sense of humor made it a can’t-miss anime for many fans. However, an incredible fan animation has brought the Forgers into the world of an iconic spy comic, making for a pitch-perfect crossover.

Created by Youtuber J.M. Buried, Spy vs. Spy x Family is a short animated fan film that introduces the iconic characters from MAD Magazine’s Spy vs. Spy, Black and White, to the Forger family. The story focuses on Black noticing White go into a disguise store and prepares to ambush him. However, when Anya reads his mind and realizes what’s going on, she attempts to protect Loid, who Black believes to be White. Hijinx ensue as Anya realizes things are about to get ugly when White enters the scene.

Spy vs. Spy Feels Right at Home in the World of Spy x Family

It’s the Crossover No One Realized They Needed

What’s remarkable about this crossover between Black, White and the Forgers is how well the two franchises blend together. Spy vs. Spy is a series that lived and died with its slapstick. Given how both characters are intentionally mute, visual comedy was key to driving home its punchlines. J.M. Buried perfectly replicates this comic’s style with both Black and White maintaining their iconic sense of humor as they ruthlessly plot how to kill the other.

What drives home this meeting of the minds is making Anya the focus. She’s the center of Spy x Family’s signature humor with Anya’s adorable personality and meme-worthy faces, so it’s important that she plays a central role in her interactions with Black and White, not Loid or Yor. For instance, her loud screams as she realizes both Black and White mistake Loid for the enemy spy are laugh out loud funny. Plus, it’s capped off perfectly when Anya gives Spy vs. Spy’s signature laugh and peace sign.

J.M. Buried’s Crossover Proves Spy vs. Spy is Timeless

The Duo Can Work in Any Form of Spy Media

The best part about this animation is how much it shows that Spy vs. Spy will remain culturally timeless, even though the series came to an end in 2022. Black and White are such simple characters that they can be incredibly malleable. This is proven through J.M. Buried’s animation as both spies are able to interact with the Forgers without either franchise sacrificing what made them so popular. It still feels like a comic that would appear in MAD Magazine, showing that the duo will always be funny no matter the time period.

This animation overall does a phenomenal job bringing together the Forgers and Black & White. The humor hits the funny bone for fans of both franchises while also injecting just the right amount of nostalgia for those who loved the Spy vs. Spy comics. Fans looking for more of J.M. Buried’s animations should subscribe to his Youtube channel, as the creator has more incredible crossover animations. It’s a tremendous fan animation that Spy x Family fans don’t want to miss as the Forgers cross paths with one of America’s most beloved spy series.
