Launched by Lionsgate, Saw XI has been confirmed as the next installment in the highly successful horror franchise following the triumph of Saw X. This latest release has garnered remarkable acclaim, receiving the most positive reviews in the entire history of the franchise, signifying a remarkable return to its original form.
Saw X, released in fall 2023, restored the notorious character Jigsaw, portrayed by Tobin Bell, to a twisted cat-and-mouse game. The movie captivated audiences and critics alike, leaving a strong impression on the industry.
Months following the terrifying aftermath of Saw X, Lionsgate recently announced the arrival of Saw XI. The news was delivered through an ominous Instagram post accompanied by a caption that read, “The game continues.” Check out the intriguing post below:
While details are scarce, the studio confirmed that Saw XI is set to hit theaters on September 27, 2024. The announcement emphasized the significance of the number 11, which is highlighted in red within the image, presented in Roman numerals.
Saw X tremendously revived the body horror franchise, earning its first-ever “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics giving it an impressive 80% approval, while audiences adored the film even more, granting it an outstanding 89% score. Although Saw X did not reach the box office heights of previous installments, it showcased a noticeable improvement over recent releases. With a total global collection of $107 million, it became the sixth highest-grossing movie of the series. The positive response from audiences and critics alike undoubtedly sparked anticipation for the next chapter.
One of the main questions revolves around the timeline placement of Saw XI. Its predecessor acted as a prequel, fitting between the original Saw and Saw II, a necessary measure to ensure Jigsaw’s direct involvement in the story. Considering the events of Saw X and its post-credits scene, it seems plausible that this upcoming movie will also take place prior to the second film in the franchise’s chronology. The closing moments of Saw X introduced the return of Mark Hoffman, portrayed by Costas Mandylor, as he collaborated with Jigsaw to set a trap for Henry Kessler, played by Michael Beach, one of the fraudsters who previously attempted to deceive Jigsaw.
Within the Saw timeline, Jigsaw’s demise occurs in the 2006 film Saw III.
Continuing the storyline from Saw X in this new chapter appears to be a wise decision, considering the immense success of the previous installment. Furthermore, setting Saw XI in an earlier part of the overall timeline presents an opportunity to reintroduce other familiar characters alongside Jigsaw and Hoffman. With less than a year until its release, fans eagerly await further revelations about Saw XI.
