La seconda stagione di Arcane non arriverà quest’anno.

In a recent interview published by Bilibili, the CEO of Riot Games, Nicolo Laurent, confirmed that the second season of the animated series Arcane will not be released this year, as many had claimed. However, he also revealed that he has already seen the third episode of this continuation and that production is progressing well.

Arcane is one of the many video game adaptations to animation that achieved incredible success thanks to a high level of production. The first season of Arcane was praised and also won almost every international award it was nominated for, attracting the attention even of those who had never played League of Legends, the video game that inspired the story.

When the first season ended, the second was announced shortly thereafter, which left fans quite satisfied. However, this continuation was not part of the production team’s plans, as they did not expect the adaptation to be tremendously successful. This is what Nicolo Laurent commented on during the short segment of the interview:

• “I just watched the third episode of the second season before my flight, so we’re making progress. It’s not ready yet and there are two reasons for that. One, we want quality. We just don’t want to rush it. Honestly, we didn’t know if the first season was going to be a success. […] Had we known, we could have started the second season much earlier. But we didn’t, so we waited a bit. Now we’re paying the price. So, unfortunately, it won’t be released this year.”

Arcane Synopsis

The story takes place in the cities of Piltover and Zaun. Although Arcane focuses only on these two cities, they belong to the world of Runeterra. Piltover is the academic, scientific, and wealthy city, while Zaun is the exact opposite, with suburbs full of crime, poverty, and infested with toxic chemicals, where there is no authority. The tensions and rivalries that exist between these two cities divide families and friends, as in the case of Vi and Powder, two zaunite sisters; or Jayce and Viktor, two inventor friends and apprentices to the legendary scientist Heimerdinger. All these relationships will overflow with the creation of Hextech in Piltover, a technology with which anyone is able to control magical energy, while in Zaun a new drug transforms humans into monsters.
