“We looked to ‘Succession’ as a model for how to write dialogue for our villains,” Goldstein explained. “They’re so despicable, but also so entertaining, and you can’t help but root for them in a weird way.”
The duo also discussed the challenges of bringing a tabletop game to life on the big screen. “There is a lot of world-building to do when you’re adapting something like this,” Daley said. “You want to stay true to the spirit of the game, but you also have to make it accessible to a wider audience.”
“But we’re also just big fans of the game,” Goldstein added. “We played it a lot in high school and college, so it’s been a dream project for us.”
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is set to hit theaters in February 2023.
