In Fast X, Jason Momoa plays the character of Dante Reyes, the son of Hernan Reyes from Fast Five. He is after Dominic Toretto to avenge his father’s death and the loss of their family fortune, making him the most dangerous threat that Dominic has ever faced. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Momoa discussed how he played a significant role in choosing Dante’s colorful costumes, being “inspired by pastel colors.” He also revealed how the wardrobe is meant to seem inviting initially, but that isn’t the true nature of Dante.
Momoa’s wardrobe is a reflection of Dante’s character, who is the complete opposite of Dominic, as his appearance is meant to stand out and seem less threatening initially. However, the false sense of charisma and security likely becomes even more terrifying when his true colors are shown. By wearing bright and pastel colors, Momoa shows a different type of male antagonist for Dominic to face, who has primarily fallen into the macho stereotype.
Momoa’s description of Dante Reyes as “the devil, and the devil tricked me” encapsulates what makes his wardrobe and acting choices strong in the movie. Fast X will be released on May 19, 2023.
