Asiaticafilmmediale celebrates its 10th anniversary this year presenting to you many novelties, such as the return to Cinema Capranica. That is to create along with Hadrian’s Temple a corner of Asia in the heart of Rome.
The festival will last 10 days symbolically, opening with a symposium about the topic "Does finance have a soul?" and held by important experts of economy, European and Asian culture.
To begin with, this year focus on an Asian metropolis is dedicated to Manila, the city recently devastated by a monsoon; on the other hand Panorama section is richer than ever, having several films from Azerbaijan, China, South Korea, Philippines, Georgia, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Iran, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Vietnam.
New international issues will bring us to Iran, Central Asia and to back-countries.
The festival will also offer forums, as an outlet to generate new reflections on films. The long awaited Encounters of Asiatica includes conversations with artists and representatives of Asian culture. A "cinema lesson by Tadao Sato" will be presented. Mr. Sato, an icon of Japanese cinema critics, will introduce to festival audiences three masterpieces by Kenji Mizoguchi, one of the most famous Japanese cinema-masters.
Another new initiative is "Asia di Carta", in cooperation with Promoroma, a special company of the Chamber of Commerce of Rome in charge of promoting the capital by producing cultural content and organizing events that link the films to the presentation of the newest Asian and Western books translated and published in Italy.
As a result of last year’s brilliant debut, the event “Crossing Cultures” will be presented again this year. Five festival guests from five different countries will come together to produce five short films in an important creative collaboration that will reveal how five Asian directors see Italy.
We have built an ideal bridge to Asia. We are looking forward to crossing this bridge together!
