Nella Tehran dei nostri giorni, tre bambini cercano come possono di mettere da parte dei risparmi, rinunciando ai loro piccoli lussi. I due fratelli maggiori si prendono cura del fratello più piccolo, un bambino di cinque anni che non parla mai. Attraverso uno scambio di parole sussurrate, si scopre che c’è qualcosa di più angosciante dei suoi silenzi. Il fratellino deve ancora accostarsi ad un importante rito tradizionale, ma questo sarà possibile solo quando i ragazzi riusciranno a trovare un adulto che li accompagni.

In modern day Tehran, a group of three children eke out a living by any means they can — giving up their small "luxuries". The two older siblings look after their younger brother, a five year old boy that never talks. Through a series of whispered exchanges, it transpires that his silence is not the only concern. He has yet to undergo an important traditional ceremony, but this will only be possible if the children can manage to find an elder to accompany them.

Parviz Shahbazi

Nato nel 1962, ha iniziato la sua carriera dirigendo alcuni cortometraggi e documentari. E’ stato aiuto regista di Jafar Panahi nel film Badkonak-e sefid (Il palloncino bianco, 1995). Il suo primo film, Mosafere jonub (1996) ha ottenuto un buon successo a livello internazionale. Najva (2000) è il suo secondo lavoro.

Born in 1962, he started his film career with several shorts and documentaries. He was assistant director to Jafar Panahi in the film Badkonak-e sefid (The white balloon, 1995). His first feature, Mosafere jonub (1996) garnered acclaim on the international circuit. Najva (2000) is his second film.
