M. F. Hussain considers him to be the most significant painter of India after him. Yehudi Menhuen was so deeply touched by his work that he could not resist writing to him after acquiring one of his works. Whether it is Sotheby’s auction in New York or Christie’s in London or a group show in Calcutta, Ganesh Pyne’s paintings command the highest sum paid for a square centimetre of painting by any living Indian artist. Suave, soft spoken, shy but unyielding in his commitment, he remains unperturbed by whatever said or written about him. This diminutive painter created unique blends of reality and imagination, tradition and modernity.

Buddhadeb Dasgupta

Nato ad Anara nel 1946, è considerato uno dei più importanti registi indiani. Le sue opere hanno ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti in India e all’estero: tre in particolare hanno vinto il Premio Nazionale per il miglior film dell’anno e quasi tutte sono state presentate a festival e rassegne internazionali. Ha diretto, tra gli altri, Duratawa (1978), Grihayuddha (1982) Andhi Gali (1984), Lal Darja (1996). Nel 2000 ha partecipato con Uttara al 57° Festival di Venezia, aggiudicandosi il "premio speciale per la regia".

Born in Anara in 1946, he is considered one of the most important Indian directors. His pieces have received numerous acknowledgements in India and abroad: three of them have won the National Price for "Film of the Year" and mostly all of them have been presented to international film festivals. He has directed, among others, Duratawa (1978), Grihayuddha (1982) Andhi Gali (1984), Lal Darja (1996). He has participated in the year 2000 the 57^th Venice film festival with Uttara, achieving the "special price" for direction.
