Li Yang utilizza un metodo piuttosto singolare per insegnare l’inglese. Nelle Università della Cina mette in scena delle rappresentazioni con grandi masse di studenti che incita con frasi come questa:"Studiate bene l’inglese al fine di costruire un mondo di pace!" Il suo intento è quello di rendere lo studio dell’inglese un dovere patriottico e una rigida disciplina per migliorare se stessi. Li Yang grida:"Qual’è il modo migliore per onorare il vostro paese?". "Prepararsi ad entrare nel ventunesimo secolo. Essere capaci di competere a livello internazionale per guadagnare più denaro. Così dimostrerete di amare il vostro paese".

Li Yang has a very unique style of teaching English. He stages wildly popular mass events with thousands of students in universities of China, leading them with sentences like "Study English well to promote world peace!" He wants to make the study of English a patriotic duty and a mystical path to self-improvement. "What is the most concrete way to love your country?". He cries. "To make yourself qualified for the 21^st century. To make yourself strong mentally and physically. To make more money internationally. That’s the way to love your country".

Zhang Yuan

Nato a Nanjing nel 1963. Dopo aver frequentato corsi di disegno e pittura, si laurea presso la Beijing Film Academy nel 1989. L’anno successivo produce e dirige Mama, nonostante il divieto delle autorità cinesi. Il film viene presentato e premiato al Festival di Nantes. Beijing Zazmong (1992), primo film cinese totalmente indipendente dal 1949, si aggiudica riconoscimenti a Locarno e a Singapore. In seguito si dedica anche alla regia di video musicali per Cui Jian, celebre rock star cinese e nel 1994 dirige e produce Guang chang, un documentario su Piazza Tien an Men, cinque anni dopo i tragici scontri. Nel 1995 realizza Erzi e Danmai Guniang, mentre l’anno dopo partecipa al Festival di Cannes nella sezione "Un certain regard", con Dong Gong Xi Gong, successivamente adattato per il teatro. Nel 1999 dirige il documentario Fengkuang yingyu e il film Guo Nian Hui Jia (17 anni), con cui si aggiudica il premio speciale per la regia al 56° Festival di Venezia.

Born in Nanjing in 1963. After initial studies in drawing and painting, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cinematography from the Beijing Film Academy in 1989. In 1990 he produces and directs Mama, despite of the denial from Chinese authorities. The film is presented and awarded at the Nantes Film Festival. Beijing Zazmong (1992), first totally independent (from 1949) Chinese feature film, achieves awards in Locarno and Singapore. Thereafter he also dedicates himself to music video direction for Cui Jian, famous Chinese rock star, and in 1994 directs and produces Guang chang, a documentary on Tien an Men square, five years later the tragic clashes. In 1995 he makes Erzi and Danmai Guniang, while participating a year later to Cannes Film Festival in the "Un certain regard" section with Dong Gong Xi Gong, which was afterwards adapted to theatre. He directs in 1999 the documentary Fengkuang yingyu and the film Guo Nian Hui Jia (Seventeen Years), through which he achieves the special prize for direction at the 56^th Venice film festival.
