Un gruppo di vecchi amici si riunisce per ricordare i bei tempi del passato. Quando Yongho si allontana dal gruppo, gli altri sono spaventati nel vederlo immobile sulla traiettoria di un treno che si sta avvicinando. Con il suo grido:" Voglio tornare indietro!" la vera storia e i retroscena cominciano a svelarsi. Attraverso un lungo viaggio nella memoria, vediamo Yongho comprare una pistola e poi recarsi dal suo primo amore che sta morendo. La moglie lo tradisce. Lui la sottopone a degli interrogatori spietati. Si arruola nell’esercito. E alla fine, nell’arco di 20 anni, viene rivelato il tempo dell’innocenza e della speranza nella vita di Yongho

A group of old friends reunite in an attempt to recapture some of the good times from the past. When Yongho runs away from the group, the others are horrified as they watch him stand motionless in the path of an oncoming train. With his cry of "I want to go back!" the real story and the secrets begin to unfold. As the layers of time melt away, we see Yongho buy a gun, then visit the deathbed of his first love. His wife betrays him. He acts as a ruthless interrogator. He serves in the army. And finally, 20 years in the past, the most innocent and hopeful time in Yongho's life is revealed.

Lee Chang-dong

Nato nel 1954 a Taegu. Nel 1980 si diploma in Letteratura presso l’Università di Kyungpuk. Inizia la sua carriera come romanziere. Successivamente si avvicina al mondo del cinema in veste di sceneggiatore. Scrive la sceneggiatura di Gesom e kako schipta (1993), film diretto da Park Kwang-Su, il regista per il quale lavora come aiuto regista e per il quale scriverà la sceneggiatura di Jeon Tae-il (1996), presentato al Festival di Berlino del 1996. Nel 1997 dirige il suo primo film Green Fish, presentato al Festival di Londra. Peppermint Candy (1999) è il suo secondo film.

Born in Taegu in 1954. In 1980 he received a Diploma in Literature from the University of Kyungpuk. He began his career as a novelist then entered the film industry, initially as a scriptwriter. His first screenplay to be filmed was Gesom e kako schipta (1993). It was directed by Park Kwang-Su for whom he worked as assistant director and for whom he later scripted Jeon Tae-il (1996), also directed by Park Kwang-Su. The latter film was screened at the 1996 Berlin Film Festival. Lee directed his first feature Green Fish in 1997 which was screened in the 1997 London Film Festival. Peppermint Candy (1999) is his second film.
