This documentary by Guido Ferrari retraces the footsteps of
Fosco Maraini by conjuring up the memories of this great
traveler, anthropologist, writer and photographer with the
support of his own original photographs. From his villa in Florence,
Maraini recalls his trips to Tibet in the company of
Giuseppe Tucci, the famous Orientalist, his encounters with
the local population, with the Princess Pemà, the lama, and
with the Ainu, a primitive people of Japan. He moves on to
describe the great alpine expeditions he once took part in,
and his contact with the mysterious Kafira people in Pakistan
and their shaman rituals. In conclusion, Maraini states that
his whole life he has wished to penetrate the mystery of the
other.
