Burma Issues is a project that
functions as part of the Peaceway
Foundation. It works to help
grassroots movements organize
and document their struggles.
The project works directly with the
grassroots communities, the most
oppressed and marginalized ones
in Burma, and focuses specifically
on the tasks of movement building,
education and community organizing.
It also acts as an information
center and campaign for peace. Witnesswas founded in 1992 by
musician and activist Peter Gabriel.
Struck by the stories he heard from
survivors of human rights abuses
while on tour with Amnesty Int.’s
tour “Human Rights Now!” and the
lack of attention these stories
received, he decided to use the
potential of video as a tool against
abuse. Today, WITNESS is an independent
nonprofit organization with
offices in Brooklyn, New York and
human rights partners based around |
