Calcutta, My Love returns to the Calcutta of the 1960s and 70s
and to the birth of the radical Naxalite movement when a section
of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) led by Charu
Majumdar and Kanu Sanyal led a violent uprising in 1967. The
film’s protagonist, a young rural boy from a modest family
who goes to Calcutta for further studies, gets unwittingly
sucked into the movement even though violence is not in his
character. His life whirls around his love for a girl, his commitment
to the movement and his imprisonment. Calcutta, My
Love is a chronicle of those turbulent years as seen through
the story of the young Animesh.
