As the first of the director’s
planned five films revolving around personal, political, and
social issues in the South East Asian region, Monday Morning
Glory, set in a small town in South-East Asia, takes place
a week after a bombing in a night club, which claimed 199
lives. Having captured the core members of a cell group who
he thinks are responsible for the attack, the local chief
of police invites a select group of journalists to witness
a re-enactment of the events leading up to the attack. Already
facing immense pressure from his higher-ups and also the press,
the chief hopes on this Monday morning to vindicate himself
and reveal the truth behind this act of terrorism. “The
film focuses on a small group of people in a terrorist cell
that operates in a village. Though it is about terrorists,
it isn’t a film about terrorism. I sought to show the
everyday elements of human activity that even a terrorist
is not precluded from…”
