| In Behesht Zahra, Tehran's big cemetery with
over 800.000 tombs, there is an area reserved to the martyrs
of the Iran - Iraq war. Many women come here once or twice a
week to visit the tombs of their sons, young volunteers who
died for their country or for Islam. Some of these women have
been coming every week for more than twenty years. This movie
shows the lives of these mothers in this cemetery. They meet
each other, chat, cook, pray, cry and rest. And that's how they
spend their whole day on Thursdays. This movie takes up the
challenge never to leave the cemetery, and yet to speak about
life. It is the expression of a paradox: how a place of death
can turn into a place of life, occupied by a large population,
essentially women, or mothers that themselves symbolize birth
or life. . |
