One family, three people, 23 scenes. Oxhide is about a family
of three father, mother and daughter- living under the same
roof in Beijing. The family earns its living by producing handmade
leather bags, but business has dropped off due to the fatheräs
stubbornness. The shop could sell more if it offered special
discounts, but the father refuses to do so. He grows older and
older, but holds on to his unrealistic hopes for the future.
As his birthday draws near, it seems the situation is not changing
for the better. The family can not pay off their years of debts.
A mood of anxiety settles over the family, there are endless
quarrels, a screen window covered with dust, a poor life, heavy
debt, a business in the red. But there are also happy moments
and an indescribable affection. Before dawn on the fatheräs
birthday, he opens his eyes and feels utter despair. Oxhide
has been recognized as the most innovative Chinese film of the
last years. . |
