|
| 1857: The entire Indian sub continent is ruled
by the British East India Company, the most successful business
enterprise in history. The company has its own laws, its own
administration, its own army, composed of Hindu and Muslim soldiers,
called sepoys. The Rising is an epic tale of friendship, betrayal,
love and sacrifice set against the backdrop of what the British
called the sepoy mutiny but which for the Indians was the First
War of Independence. When the heroic sepoy Mangal Pandey saves
the life of a British officer, a strong friendship develops
between them. But the introduction of new cartridges, rumoured
to be coated with the grease of cow (sacred to the Hindus) and
pig (forbidden to the Muslims), will ignite anger and resentment
among the sepoys, challenging this friendship and changing the
course of history. . |
