HASINA

Girish Kasaravalli

 

Hasina lives with her 3 daughters Ąthe eldest one, Munni, is blind- in the outskirts of a small town. She has been deserted by her husband Yakoob as she has borne only girls. Hasina makes desperate attempts to bring Yakoob back home, but does not succeed. The doctor who attends on Munni, tells Hasina that an operation could bring eye sight back to the girl. A ray of hope appears in the world of Hasina, she starts doing odd jobs to raise money for MunniŠs operation. She starts working as a house maid in the house of a rich lady, Julekha Begum. Julekha is a well informed person about the tenets of Islam and Shariat. She advises Hasina to seek justice from Jamaath (the Council of the mosque). Hasina begins her long journey seeking justice for her and her family. .

Girish Kasaravalli

Girish Kasaravalli is one of the leading names in the contemporary Indian cinema. He is a Pharmacy Graduate turned director. An alumnus of Film and Television Institute of Pune, he is the only servicing film director of New Film movement in Karnataka. He started his career in Kannada cinema in 1975 and in a carrier spanning 3 decades he has made only 10 films, but won a number of prestigious awards. Ghatashraddha, Tabarana Kathe, Thayi Saheba, Dweepa are his notable films. Girish KasaravalliŠs films are shown in many film festivals world over. Retrospective screenings of his films were held in Rome, Rotterdam, Dakha, etc. Currently, he is working on a new film.
