in Iran, the film narrates the fascinating story of Iranian
cleric Ali Afsahi and his passion for cinema. This was at a
time when the Iranian clergy still denounced cinema as a western
threat to Islamic values. But Ali Afsahi found the key to “open”
any film: love. He gave cinema classes at religious schools,
where he showed and analysed famous and even controversial films
by western directors. His stubborn defence of cinema has often
put him in a state of clear opposition with his country’s
authorities. This movie is also the passionate love story of
Ali and his wife Rahra.
