Guixiang, an out-of-work singer, is forced to move back to her
hometown after the arrest of her father. Saddled with her husband’s
debts, she turns to her old boyfriend, Youming, for comfort.
Taking his advice, she tries being a “cry woman”,
namely a professional mourner.

A graduate from the Beijing Film Academy, Lui Bingjian, born
in 1963, initially worked for the television. His first feature
film is Yanchuang (Inkstone, 1996). His second work, NanNan
NuNu, participated in many international film festivals and
was awarded the Fipresci Prize at the 52nd Locarno International
Film Festival.
